Notes

Watching my subjects and drawing from them from life, they often make me smile. At other times their strength and beauty brings a lump to my throat. Here are some of my notes.

January

After a wonderful family Christmas, I escaped to the Barnes Wetlands and spied some coot and moorhen scooting about on the ice. With their long careful feet, do they feel the cold? Answers please.

February

This month found me in a Young Offenders Unit in Jersey. Like all teenagers they were a mix of the apathetic and the energetic and together we produced a mural of African Wildlife – they were brilliant!

March

Amazed to learn that I have been short-listed for the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year 2009, so my work “Gossiping Gals” of Purple Swamphens will go to the Mall Galleries, London SW1 from June 1– 6.

April

Thanks to Martin Chaffer of SOFAP, I heard of a last minute opportunity to show at Putney Arts Theatre, SW15 from Wednesday 22 April to Saturday 9 June 2009 Hours may vary: 020 8788 6943

July

Enchanted by the Purple Swamphens, I didn’t notice a rare Black Lemur upside down in my art bag. Aghast, the keepers instructed "Don’t Stroke Him!" Alright to pull him out by his tail then?

August

An enormous swan dozed at the water’s edge. He blinked, drew in his head, then stretching his neck, slowly flapped his immense wings and raised his bulk to full height, before settling once more.

September

Last flight of a golden afternoon: we gazed across the valley and about 1 ˝ miles away above the woodland were two black dots. The Bald Eagles, each with a wingspan of 7’ (over 2 metres), were flying home to the lure.
